Hygiene Kits

Local churches can participate in the mission of the Haiti Partnership by assembling personal hygiene kits for the teams to deliver to the people of Haiti.

Formerly called “Health Kits,” Personal Hygiene Kits are a help to people throughout Haiti who do not have ready access to many essential supplies for everyday life, especially those facing natural disasters. Hygiene kits are also used as learning tools in personal hygiene, literacy, nutrition and cooking classes. When people gain the knowledge and materials to maintain personal hygiene, their overall health improves. The Haiti Partnership delivers hundreds of kits each year.

If you or your group would like to help, here’s how:

Kits should include: [contents of each kit are valued at about $12]

  • 1 hand towel – 15 inches by 25 inches (or up to 17 inches by 27 inches)

    • Kitchen, cleaning, and microfiber towels not acceptable

  • 1 wash cloth

  • 1 wide-toothed comb - for thick curly hair

  • 1 fingernail clipper OR nail file (no emery boards or toenail clippers)

  • 1 bath-size bar (3 oz or larger) of soap (do not remove from packaging)

    • No Ivory or Jergens soap due to moisture content

  • 1 toothbrush (adult size only – do not remove from packaging)

  • 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages (¾ inch to 1 inch-size)

  • $1.00 to purchase toothpaste  [see Assembly Directions]

Assembly Directions

Set the $1.00 for toothpaste aside to be included in a separate envelope. Lay out the hand towel flat on a table. Lay the washcloth flat in the center of the hand towel. Place all remaining items on top of the washcloth. Fold over the sides of the hand towel to cover all of the items. Fold over one end of the hand towel so that it covers all of the items. Grasp the bundle of items tightly and roll over the remainder of the hand towel tightly. Place the tightly rolled bundle in the plastic bag. Remove as much air as possible and seal the bag.

  • All items included in kits must be NEW.

  • Please remove all packaging, unless otherwise specified above.

  • Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits – especially political, religious or patriotic and avoid any emblems.  Extra gifts, though given with the best of intentions, render a kit unusable and must be removed.

  • Do NOT include toothpaste, as per previous instructions – we now purchase toothpaste to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent.

  • Do not put single dollar bills in each kit. Collect all money for toothpaste and shipping, place it in a separate envelope and send along with the kit donations.

Completed kits may be delivered to the Susquehanna or Upper NY Conference Centers, or to the drop-off locations listed below. Label containers “For Haiti Partnership”.
